🚑 First Women & Children’s Mobile Outreach Clinic! 💙 Access to healthcare is a right, yet many in rural Madagascar lack even basic services. We’re proud to launch our first mobile outreach clinic, bringing essential care to the Andasibe region! This initiative provides: ✅ Vaccinations for preventable diseases ✅ Family planning services to give women control over their reproductive health ✅ Women’s health exams for early detection & prevention ✅ Malaria testing & treatment to combat one of Madagascar's biggest health threats ✅ Child malnutrition screenings to identify & support at-risk children 💙 Huge thanks to @mariestopesmadagascar, @maddoginitiative, Mitsinjo, and our TDARFAC field teams for making this possible! Reaching remote communities is tough—but healthcare access strengthens conservation! 🌿 🚨 Breaking Barriers: Seeking healthcare is often stigmatized due to Madagascar’s colonial history. Many women face judgment & misinformation. We’re working to build trust and empower informed decisions—because healthy communities create a sustainable future. 🔴 The Need is Urgent: • Maternal Mortality: 478 deaths per 100,000 live births • Infant Mortality: 45.1 deaths per 1,000 live births • Child Malnutrition: 39.8% suffer from stunting 📢 This work is personal. Since studying lemur mothers & infants in Madagascar in 2010, I’ve seen how community health & conservation are deeply connected. ⛔ But USAID cuts threaten projects just like ours. New Publication! 🚀 Lemurs are the most endangered group of mammals on Earth, and invasive species—especially domestic dogs—pose a major threat to their survival. 🐕⚠️ The latest research by @maddoginitiative summarizes a decade of work to understand and mitigate the impact of free-roaming dogs on lemurs and other wildlife in Madagascar. Key findings include: 🔹 Dogs prey on and displace native wildlife in Madagascar’s protected areas. 🔹 Their presence reduces overall wildlife populations in forests. 🔹 Dogs carry pathogens that threaten lemur populations and contribute to antimicrobial resistance. 🔹 Humane interventions to reduce dog populations can help protect Madagascar’s biodiversity. 🌟 Exciting Updates from Andasifahadimy: Women’s and Children’s Health Center 🚑 @jhoannyrasojy and @justorienrambeloniaina visited Andasifahadimy to scout potential locations for the upcoming Women’s and Children’s Health Center. During their visit, they spoke with the local community, including their elder and leader, Mr. Jaojoby. 🌟 The community was excited about the project! Establishing a health center has been a long-standing goal for the people of Andasifahadimy, and they expressed their excitement and willingness to help make it a reality. 🏡 Land for construction: The community identified 3️⃣ possible sites, each with its own considerations and challenges. Building and maintaining this health center is a vital step forward for women and children in Andasifahadimy and surrounding fokontany, but we still need help to make this project a reality.
